Dec. 14, 2011 – The joy of Christmas rang today as our Rotary Club members prepared gifts of clothing, toiletry items, fruit and candy for 85 residents of local assisted living facilities. The gifts were funded by the Rotary Club of Kernersville and a matching grant by District 7690. The project was smoothly managed by Hamp Langdon and Allan Asbell. We went to the facility to bare gifts and we each walked away with a greater appreciation of the season. One of the residents sang solo “Oh Holy Night” in the most beautiful voice, which will echo in my mind throughout the holiday.May you each have a Merry Christmas,
Pam
Dec. 4, 2011 – 24th Annual Pancake Supper
Nov. 9, 2011
D.G. Terry Titus welcomed Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjeeto the annual Rotary District 7690 Foundation Banquet. After acknowledging dozens of 7690 Rotarians that have given contributed greatly towards many various Rotary projects, President Banerjee spoke about the wonders of being a Rotarian. A touching story was told about one of many Rotary projects, this one about a young Ethiopian girl who was given her sight back and the extreme joy she expressed to all who were a part of the mobile eye surgery hospitals. President Banerjee’s keynote address was inspiring and he expressed many thanks for all that 7690 has done for the Rotary Foundation.
Fellow Rotarians,
Monday, Oct 24 is World Polio Day. We are at a historic moment with less than 1% away from the end of polio forever. To help finish the job, The Rotary Foundation is encouraging members to donate online during the week of Oct 24-28, 2011. For every donation of $100 or more made to Polio Plus on www.rotary.org/contribute, you will receive 2 for 1 recognition points.
The accumulation of points leads to becoming a Paul Harris Fellow or acknowledging an important person in your life with this honor. A donation of $500 given during Oct 24-28 will generate enough points to name a new PHF.
You must be registered with Rotary’s Member Access prior to making an online contribution. Member access provides Rotarians with online services and other important features. To register for Member Access, please visitwww.rotary.org/memberaccess. The promotion will begin on 6 a.m., Central Standard Time (CST), on Monday, 24 October, and end at 12 noon sharp (CST), on Friday, 28 October
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign,
Best regards,
Pam
Three months into the calendar and the Rotary Club of Kernersville has made great progress. Four District Grants have been approved! Rotary District 7690 matches our club contributions to increase our financial support of community projects.
In July our first grant provided the funding for a second scholar to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Program which was held at Guilford College. A grant in August provided additional support for the YMCA Bright Beginnings program to help equip underprivileged children with school supplies and back to school clothing. Rotary Park will blossom around the Farmer’s Market with the extra financing of our 3rd district grant. Our 4th grant will bring holiday spirits in December as we brighten the lives of residents in local nursing homes.
Internationally we are instrumental in building wells in 2 villages in Honduras. This Global Grant is a joint effort with the Olanchito Club of Honduras, Fort McMurray of Canada and District 7750 in South Carolina. The grant of $50,971 will improve water sanitation in these villages to reduce gastrointestinal diseases.
Together we continue the Rotary tradition of Doing Good in the World.
Pam Ray, Rotary Club of Kernersville – President
